What made you decide to enter the BetterRecipes.com "Best Blogger Ever" contest?

My recipe for Browned Butter Sage Crostinis are downright addictive and were very popular on my own blog! I knew it was just too good not to enter/share.

How did you come up with your winning recipe?

I was served this appetizer at a friend's New Year's Eve party years ago and have made my own version of it each holiday season since. It's become a family favorite.

Why do you think this recipe won the "Reader's Choice" award?  Did you do anything special to share or promote your recipe and encourage votes?

I think this recipe won the Reader's Choice award because it is simple to make and features a good amount of melty cheese. You just can't beat melted cheese! Also, it was photographed by my blog photographer Joanne Pio who really captured the beauty of the recipe. Those little fried sage leaves are stunning.

Do you have any recipe development or photography tips to share with our readers?

Photography is so important to a food blogger! Food can be delicious or beautiful in person but may not read well in a photograph. We all know the saying "you eat with your eyes first."  I always recommend photographing food in diffused natural lighting if possible.

Would you encourage other bloggers to enter recipe contests?

Of course! I always recommend other bloggers to get their recipes out there whenever possible. Plus it's really, really exciting to get an email from BHG saying that your recipe won! I will definitely enter again.

When did you start the blog?

I started my blog Freutcake almost 4 years ago now.

Why did you start writing a food blog?  What motivates you to write and create new recipes for your audience?

I started writing a lifestyle blog in order to have a creative outlet aside from my graphic design work. Baking is one of my favorite hobbies and naturally makes a big apperance on my site along with DIY, Beauty, Entertaining and life in general.

Do you focus on a particular angle or subject matter?

I focus on sharing recipes, projects, and post crafted for the modern day hostess!

Do you have any tips for readers interested in starting their own blog?

Just do it! If you start a blog about something you are passionate about readers will relate and respect your point of view. Stay true to your own style and put yourself out there. It's very rewarding.
