There is the old gravy-red sauce debate on what goes on pasta. Coming from an Italian family, we had pasta with gravy on most Sundays. Some of my friends called it sauce while others called it gravy. My husband always refers to gravy as the brown kind, served with on pot roast and mashed potatoes, but to me that is brown gravy. We often had pot roast at our Sunday dinners too. But this was not the kind you eat with mashed potatoes. This was the type of pot roast served with ravioli, spaghetti or penne pasta.
When I was first married, I made an Italian pot roast for my husband. He had never had a pot roast like this before. He was used to a pot roast with carrots, brown gravy and mashed potatoes. He really enjoyed it the new way I made it, so I have incorporated it into our monthly dinner menu. It's so easy to make, I can even cook it while sleeping.
I actually put this roast in my slow cooker right before I went bed. When I woke up in the morning, I could smell dinner. All I had to do was heat up the roast and boil some pasta for that night's dinner. If you are not a pasta fan, this roast is great with rice or on some crusty bread to make an awesome sandwich. I usually serve it with a Caprese salad and dinner is done.
Our Sundays are usually hectic - we are at soccer games, baseball games or church events. The slow cooker is a really handy cooking tool when you want to come home to an easy cooked dinner. Here are some other ideas for your slow cooker:
I love making anything in the slow cooker but this Italian Pot Roast has always been one of my favorites. Besides, it pairs well with pasta which is another one of my favorites.
