I figured this was the ideal recipe to share today, because June 6th is National Doughnut Day! Celebrate with me, won't you?
The first step, of course, is to make your "cereal milk." Simply soak the cereal in whole milk for about 30 minutes and strain.
The cereal milk is part of the wet ingredients along with butter, eggs and vanilla extract. This is then combined with the dry ingredients to make the doughnut batter. These are baked doughnuts using a doughnut pan. I found it was easy and clean to put the batter in a plastic zip top bag, snip the end, and then pipe it into the doughnut pan wells.
The doughnuts bake up beautifully in the oven. Once they are slightly cooled, the doughnuts are dipped in a "cereal milk" glaze and then topped with more colorful cereal.
The doughnuts are best served immediately. This recipe makes 12 doughnuts, so why not make a batch, go find some friends and share!
