Accordion Sandwich Loaf

Summer is chock full of family reunions, backyard parties and neighborhood potlucks.  If you are looking for an easy recipe with fun presentation, this "Accordion Sandwich Loaf" is for you.  It's guaranteed to impress at your next summer soiree!

Keep reading for the recipe…

This recipe uses a new product from King's Hawaiian, a loaf of sweet sliced bread.  I absolutely love all of the King's Hawaiian products and was even lucky enough to tour their Los Angeles bakery last summer.  The aroma throughout the factory was so intoxicating, I could have stayed there all day!

The concept behind an "accordion sandwich loaf" is easy.  After preparing your favorite sandwich recipe, stack the sandwiches and insert a long, metal skewer from top to bottom.  This accordion loaf uses 10 slices from a 12 slice package of King's Hawaiian bread.  (I like to save the two end pieces for toast in the morning!)

You can see the skewer goes in one end and comes out the other.  Transfer to your loaf to a serving plate and fan out like an accordion.  The accordion effect is created by inserting a slice of green pepper  between each sandwich.  This also separates the sandwiches for easy serving.

You can use this technique for any of your favorite sandwich recipes.  Here I made my accordion loaf with ham, swiss and a special Hawaiian-inspired spread with pineapple preserves, mayonnaise, and mustard.
