Breakfast in Bed – Panettone French Toast

Today is the first wintry snow day here in New York City.  Schools have been cancelled and the roads are a mess, but the soft, white snowflakes drifting past my window are simply majestic.  After over a decade in sunny Los Angeles, this is certainly new territory for me.  It's the kind of day where you just want to curl up with breakfast in bed.  In fact, I think I am going to do just that…

Keep reading for the recipe…

I recently picked up this Christmas Panettone from Eataly.  It was so beautiful in the cellophane wrapping and big red bow, I just couldn't resist.  This morning, I figured it would be fun to turn it into French Toast.

I whipped up a traditional custard batter for the slices of bread, but added a hint of Frangelico.  (Hey, it's a snow day!)  If you want to use a dash of vanilla extract instead, it also tastes great.

Instead of maple syrup, I decided to drizzle the french toast with warm chocolate-hazelnut spread.  Oh, this is pure indulgence!

Served on a breakfast tray with a hot cup of coffee, a glass of orange juice and the morning paper – I am in heaven.

This whole experience is made even more enjoyable because of my brand new bed from Sleep Number.  When I was shopping for a new bed, exploring the options at Sleep Number was at the top of my list.  I had seen the commercials and was intrigued by idea of adjustable firmness.  So, I stopped by my local store (one of 425 Sleep Number stores across the country) to check it out for myself.

The process of selecting a bed from Sleep Number is an experience in and of itself.  The helpful and experienced staff guides you through the process to find the exact bed and firmness for your needs.  It starts with the "Individual Fit" technology to asses the needs of your body and sleep style.  Then you start with the maximum level of firmness – 100.  The mattress is adjusted down by increments of 5 until you find the ideal moment of comfort.  For me, it was 55.

I fell in love with the m7 memory foam bed.  I had never slept on a memory foam mattress before and it was pure bliss.  The DualAir technology of the m7 allows for different levels of firmness and support on each side of the bed at the touch of a button.   It also has 3-inches of CoolFit™ foam with gel technology for cool, soothing comfort.  You can only by this outstanding m7 bed from Sleep Number, and I can't tell you how highly I recommend it!

Exactly…
