I was excited to ask our winner a few questions about her recipe and how she came to win the Reader's Choice prize.
What made you decide to enter the BetterRecipes.com "Best Blogger Ever" contest?
A friend of mine in a blogging group told me about the contest and I was on a smoothie kick, so it was perfect timing!
How did you come up with your winning recipe?
I really love citrus so I wanted something smooth yet with a bit of that citrusy zing to it.
Why do you think this recipe won the "Reader's Choice" award? Did you do anything special to share or promote your recipe and encourage votes?
I shared the link with my blogging group and asked a lot of my Facebook friends to vote. I would like to think that people thought it sounded delicious as well!
Do you have any recipe development tips to share with our readers?
My tips on recipe development are just don't be afraid to try combinations of different things. The worse that can happen is it tastes bad and it gets thrown out. You never know if you will stumble upon that winning recipe!
Have you seen an increase in traffic to your blog or this recipe since your win?
Yes I have. It's nice to know that people like my content as well as my recipes.
Would you encourage other bloggers to enter recipe contests?
Most definitely! They are fun, a great way to meet new people, and engage a larger audience for your blog.
When did you start the blog?
I started about 6 months ago, so it's still kind of a baby.
Why did you start writing a food blog? What motivates you to write and create new recipes for your audience?
I have always had a passion for cooking and baking and friends always asked for tips and recipes. I wanted to give them a place to go to get help in the kitchen if they needed it.
Do you focus on a particular angle or subject matter?
Mostly baking, but I do throw some dinners or restaurant reviews in as well.
Do you have any tips for readers interested in starting their own blog?
Don't wait! There will always be someone interested in what you have to say! It's a great creative outlet and fun!
