How to Remove Hazelnut Skins

Hazelnuts (also known as "filberts") are one of my favorite go-to ingredients.  When I see them listed in a dish, I always want to try the recipe!

Often you will find hazelnuts sold with a thin brown skin, however you might want the skins removed for certain recipes.  Don't worry, it can be done quickly with two easy steps.  Let me show you how!

Keep reading for the recipe…

1)  Spread the hazelnuts out in an even layer on a sheet pan.  Place in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes.

2)  Immediately after removing the warm hazelnuts from the oven, place them inside a damp towel.  (If you have a large amount of hazelnuts, I suggest doing this step in batches so each one gets attention.)  Rub the damp towel vigorously and the skins will come right off!  This photo shows about 3/4 of the way through the process.

That's it!  Now you can sse the beautiful hazelnuts as directed.  I like this process because it also lightly toasts the hazelnuts, bringing out their beautiful aroma and flavor.

Love hazelnuts as much as I do?  Check out 5 of my favorite recipes!
