Last month I had the pleasure of attending the Pillsbury Bake-Off. This year the contest was held in Las Vegas, and let me tell you, that doughboy knows how to party! I look forward to this epic event every year (it is now an annual contest) and this year took the glitz and glamour to a whole new level. 100 home cooks from across America competed and in the end, one lucky finalist walked away with the biggest prize.
Glori Spriggs (center) was awarded $1,000,000 for her "Loaded Potato Pinwheels." Imagine everything you love about a loaded baked potato in a bite-sized appetizer. I am guessing this recipe will show up at many holiday parties this season. It's also perfect for Super Bowl munchies in January. This is one of those recipes that will soon be part of your go-to entertaining menu.
Start with a tube of the Pillsbury "Recipe Creations." This product is the same as the crescent dough, but without the seams. Although, you can also unroll a tube of crescent dough and press the seams to seal.
Unroll the dough from the tube.
Slice the dough in half, into two equal pieces.
Thawed frozen potatoes are combined with cheese, bacon bits and a splash of milk.
This filling is spread over the dough.
Roll, seal the seams and slice. I like to score the dough at 1 inch intervals to ensure equal sizes.
Bake until golden brown.
Top with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkling of bacon bits and a few sliced green onions. There you have it! The 2013 Pillsbury Bake-Off grand prize winner!
