Old-Fashioned Prune Cake

It's ok…

You don't have to start your resolutions just yet!

This "Old-Fashioned Prune Cake" was a favorite treat of my Great-Great Grandmother back in Iowa.  The moist and chewy dried plums are in the cake batter along with a bit of prune juice to add sweetness.

The combination of warm winter spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice) is ideal for this time of year.

The topping also has a dash of prune juice for flavor and color.  I gave the recipe my own twist by adding some toasted walnuts into the frosting.

It is prepared in a 9-inch square pan, and is the perfect sweet treat for a small gathering.  Give it a try this weekend and, I promise, you will never look at prunes or prune juice the same way again!
